AIDS Awareness With A Ribbon

Different kinds of diseases or concerns are being symbolized with various kinds of ribbons termed as awareness ribbons. A white AIDS awareness with ribbon for example symbolizes bone cancer and the red ribbon symbolizes HIV AIDS, etc as all of these issues pertain to society. A green ribbon symbolizes protection of the environment while trafficking is represented by a blue ribbon. It was in the 1970s that awareness of these colored ribbons came into existence.

During that time, as part of a program that created awareness the yellow colored ribbons were used by the wives of American soldiers. This was done to free the American soldiers who were held hostage. On release, when these soldiers returned home in the year 1981, yellow ribbons were used to welcome them. Within a very short span of time, this concept became very popular. Each of the ribbons used to create awareness has different meanings and significance. Many campaigns for awareness can be represented by just one single color and in some cases different colors are used for representing either an issue, cause or a concept.

Different kinds of cancers are represented by awareness ribbons besides AIDS awareness with ribbon of different colors. Breast cancer is represented by pink ribbon, bone cancer with white ribbon, brain cancer is represented with gray ribbon and colon cancer is represented by the blue colored awareness ribbon. As far as the health sector is concerned the red colored ribbon is used. Blue colored ribbons are used in different shades in many programs for awareness. Colon cancer is associated with the blue ribbon, prostrate cancer with the sky blue ribbon, while slavery and sex trafficking is associated with the navy blue ribbon. It is also used in creating awareness of secondhand smoke, child abuse, anti tobacco and tuberculosis.

Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti for the Haiti Recovery and Restoration awareness the red and blue ribbon was used. It is for creating awareness of organ donation and transplantation, aging research, kidney cancer, election protests and environmental protection that the green ribbon is used. Yellow ribbons were the first of its kind to be used for creating awareness on suicides and their prevention. Besides this it is also used in bone cancer, endometriosis and sarcoma awareness. Issues pertaining to suicide amongst gay teens, society and gender violence, multiple hereditary exostesis and bone cancer are associated with the white ribbon.

Pink is a color acclaimed widely all over the world which creates breast cancer awareness besides the AIDS awareness with ribbon. For child cancer and leukemia the symbol used for awareness is the gold ribbon. Pregnancy and infant loss and infertility issues are symbolized with the pink and blue ribbon. Liver cancer and hepatitis awareness is created by the ribbon in jade color. Periwinkle ribbon symbolizes stomach cancer, pulmonary hypertension and disorders in eating, violet for white blood cells related cancer, purple ribbon symbolizes different disorders like Alzheimer, cystic fibrosis, pancreatic cancer, etc, orange ribbon for ADHD, leukemia, multiple sclerosis, anti racism, animal protection etc., while the black ribbon spreads narcolepsy and melanoma awareness. The little bow that signifies AIDS awareness goes a long way in showing that you care.
